Jenni Ham ‘s library project on the music library of UNCGcampus exemplified the idea of the TRANSFER OF ENERY. The light color paletteshe used assisted in relaying the idea of weightless movement. The glass panelsused to separate spaces kept the floor plan more open instead of cut off andlocked away from the rest of the community inhabiting the space. The functionwas clearly defined as she optimized the space for multi functional use withoutcrowding the interiors. The circles and half semi-circles created theboundaries and forced transition. Circles would allow the users to feel anenclosed bond with the space and possibly an at home feeling with regards tocomfort. The freedom of open caps in the music library also helped to promotegroup study and more visitors who may suffer from Closter phobia.

To move the design into the nextphases she may challenge herself to find an opportunity for the users who mayneed or want to study on their own. Finda deeper connection between her concept and the space to related a strongerconnection. Think of other symbolic shapes besides circles to strengthen herpoint of view. “Just as music, knowledgecan be transferred, much like currents through a circuit, by interaction withpeople and other resources.”-Ham. Although I saw really well put together designI am still struggling to see the connection between the music library and thedesigners (Jenni’s) concept. I believein the next phase of refined me she will still be able to pus the envelope furtherwhile still generating logical pieces.

My fellow classmate Brian Peck composed 5 conceptual diagrams. Structure, water, electricity, technology and light were the subjects tackled. Brian's use of a consistent background in a grey tone help to exemplify his point further. His consistent layout help to brand his identity so that each page spoke the same language. The diagrams used in his Concept for water for me proved to be the most powerful due to the relation back to the original image. The ideas about fluid design and directional activity using an uninterrupted line of site push the concept to evolve into a deeply narrated story. Although each of the boards are similar in layout the WATER board is the strongest of the 5, in my opinion.

For the location of Jackson Libraryan exploration of materials were choose. They had to be depicted in somephysical form and no digital submission. The materials I chose for thisassignment was porcelain manufacture before the 1950’s, white oak wood from theExeter Precedent library, blue glass mesh as something Blue, and urethane gelbubbles. The urethane gel material was a challenge for me to show in a physicalstate since it resembles a silicon implant.

Each material in their own righthas the ability to be manipulated to several extremes. Its natural state mayseem boring but all of the materials I have chosen are very flexible. The glassmesh can be wrapped around many different forms and shapes of objects. Theporcelain can be heat-seat in molds and take on rough and smooth textures. TheWhite Oak can be carved and assembled together for a variety of differentproducts. Lastly the Urethane gel can be formed into bubbles for wallapplications or padded sheets for floor applications in low traffic areas.

Overall each of the materials is relatedto each other because of the potential to transform.

My materials board was used creatively in the form of a cube. each side was composed of a material with in the Jackson Library on UNCG campus. The goal was to analysis the site and document the existing space within a group of 7 individuals. The remaining categories of study : Function/layout, boundaries/transitions, users, furnishings, systems, and sensory experience. My cubes tell the story of the materials present, how they look applied in the structure and after you take all the material away a blank canvas is left over.

The article “Computing in Architectural design” reflects on the aging of architectural advancements in the computer realm. During progression of this newfound technology people were expecting computers to be the next best thing. Those working on the first computer were huge boxes that occupied up to 1,000 square feet of space and the processor moved very slowly. The first initial computers were used to help support the United States Air force and other military branches. Soon in the 1970’s “Computer-aided Design” (CAD) appeared. It took two approaches: Geometric engineering for those in the mechanics industry and for those people like myself it was geared towards construction and architecture. The simplest systems began with stair, door and window components as the first generation of autoCAD features. I was even very surprised to see that Apple Macintosh products were the first to be front-runner in computer aided design system until the PC came along. Currently PC platforms run the best architectural CAD software for building information systems.

It surprises me to see how aggressive some of the designers were in trying to make the computer the ultimate thinking machine. To think about a complete take over as a solution to human error was absolutely mind bottling. Computers cannot completely think for themselves, without the downloading or uploading of the necessary information to put the piece of the puzzle together. I see why new forms of the computer in that regard began to fail, too much dependence laid upon them. Today many people have lost their jobs to a computer and there are a few select people controlling the strings or should I say keys. But also computers have opened up a new career field for individuals who can benefit from technological field of computing and a various about of ranges from simple forms to more complex ones.

Throughout the article it list the several environments that have altered the computers ability to comprehend and the designers ability to work with the product before them. These environments are: Design, Habitable physical, and virtual. The first places emphasis on where one works. The seconded involves the user physically interacting with some form of “computer made device”. Thirdly, the idea of cyber space overtaking physical existence in regards to culture, economics and self-identity is becoming more permanent. Futuristic movies such as IRobot, the Terminator and Surrogates are great examples of what the potential of the computer holds in store for the days set upon us. But we the human race must stay in control.

#D. The LED lamp made every fabric have a bluer tint. The INCANDESCENT lamp made the warm fabrics look brighter and cool ones darker. The MR16 lamp brought out the brightesst shades of each fabric and the darkest fabric made of polyester looked shiny. The CFL lamp darken some color light the incandescent lamp but the colors of fabrics werent as rich. The HALOGEN lamp made the fabrics seems as if you were standing outside in the sun, the Green cotton fabric showed the best of its color.

#F In alot of the situations the lighting helped accentuate the fabrics that best red to the observers eye. the type of light help change the wavelength of color to either make it stronger or weaker to the viewer. The best way to improve lighting would be to just use colors of fabric that help compliment the lighting source.

The “Light Revealing Experience” by Marietta Millet discussed several interactions with light we as humans encounter. It is that after thought in the back on one’s head that no one ever truly thinks about. The way light affects us as human beings has been eternally program within us as individuals. Light changes the genius loci (atmosphere of a place) of any environment. To actually think in depth and to become aware of the surrounding possibilities light promotes is amazing. Light is the reason why we visit certain places perform different task, function well at different times, interact with nature, and react to climate change.

Light and Place

When it comes to light and place location is key. Light and place have two distinct aspects: (1) the place itself, physical features, characteristics that make it different from any other place. (2) The particular set of changes overtime, patterns diurnal and seasonal change (Page 6). I have experience the first distinct aspect of light and place. On a road trip traveling to the beach on the east coast of North Carolina distant from city life the sky was illuminated with stars. The experience was amazing to me because in my hometown of Prince Georges County Maryland, which is right outside of Washington D.C. I rarely see a multitude of stars in one sitting. The sky in that particular location of North Carolina favored a blanket of black velvet with a myriad of diamonds lying across it. The experience was absolutely breathe- taking and adequate for star gazing.

Light and Nature

Nature and light have a reoccurring relationship. It is the rising and setting of the sun, the glow from the moon and its interaction with water and plant life. The light from the moon controls the tide do to its gravitational pull on the earth. Water is one of the constant features of nature always moving making it very susceptible to the moons pull on the earth. The result from this interaction is high tide in oceans and lakes. In forest light from the sun filters through the trees creating visual effects that have been replicated in homes because they allow the mind to go into a meditative calm state. One of my favorite experiences with light and nature has to be the natural phenomenon of a rainbow. As the sun hit the prism form known as rain and refracts the light a color spectrum is revealed known as ROYGBIV.

Light and Climate

I would have never stop to think that light and climate had any connection or ties to one another. After reading another article in the New York Times for the second part of assignment one it made me think about the difference in climate in the United States. Based on “thermal content” places like Seattle, Washington are very chilly and have cool summers. They receive little sunlight a year. It has been known to affect people’s habits and how they interact with the world around them. It some cases Seasonal Affect Disorder (SAD) occurs affecting serotonin levels in the body that cause depression. The lack of appropriate sunlight affects the health of these individuals occupying the area for long periods of time and in some cases have lead to a high number of suicides. My freshman year at UNCG is rained constantly in the fall months and the skies were always cloudy. It had begun to take a toll on my mental health because I was not use to the constant absent of sunlight. It was at that point that I realized how important the sun was to me and my well being.

Light and time

As you follow the timeline of history, light and time have been very relevant to one another. Light lets you know when it is time to wake up (sunrise) and when it is time to go to sleep (sunset/appearance of the moon). It can help tell exact time and has been influence in architectural structures such as the pyramids in Egypt and Stonehenge. My 2^nd year first semester project was about measuring the body. The system I used was the sun and my shadow. It was based on the specific height of the sun at different intervals of the day. Using my height I measured the distance of my cast shadow which was reflective of the position of the sun. I studied the affects of the sun in the fall and spring months. The coordinates were set for the longitude and latitudinal degrees of Greensboro, NC. At noon in the spring time my shadow was cast only a few feet in front on my but at “exact noon” when the sun reached its highest point of the day my shadow was cast directly beneath my feet. Light and time are relevant not only to circadian Rhythm of the body but also to earth’s orbit, calculations of years and knowledge of self. Light and time is the foundation for our living system.

Light and Task

At last there is a response to light and task. In the daytime you have the rays of the suns daylight to perform task such a driving, walking, reading, landscaping, etc., in the day there are endless possibilities. At night however light is needed to continue doing certain task such as cooking dinner, driving (headlight use), reading, and working. The demand for time and need for light has increase so much from centuries before us. It had been known in the earlier settlements that once daylight was lost the work day ended but the creation of lamps has prolonged our days and working abilities far past average. The type of light also identifies the type of task in some situations. Bright white lights in construction zones or football games help keep the occupants awake and focused on the goal at hand. Warm yellow light is a perfect environment for socializing in a home or reading a book. Depending on the light, the productivity level of a person can be either high or low and completing certain task can solely depend on help from other characteristics of light such as time, place, climate and nature.

All of the myriad relationships of light have endless paths and can be intertwined at any point. You honestly cannot have one light relationship without the other. Human beings are affected by all the partnerships and live day to day accomplishing tasks at certain times and so forth and so on.

Light and Human Health

According to the article from the New York Times titled “The Claim: Daylight Savings Time Can Affect Your Health” many people have been suffering from sleep disruptions caused by the change in time. Daylight saving time is when we lose an hour of sunlight in the autumn and gain it back in the spring. The body’s internal clock never changes. Circadian Rhythm known as the daily cycle of activity (Merriam-webster.com) uses daylight to keep in sync with what going on in the environment around them. But as time changes the body’s natural clock does not adjust with the changes. Based on the research done by the author Anahad O’Connor these differences can cause restlessness, or in more extreme cases heart attacks, suicides, and accidents. Some of the studies in the article need more extensive research. Their theory of this idea of light affecting health has been powered in the direction of daylight savings and the body’s activity clock being out of sync.

In another reading, Eve Edelstein article titled “Influence of Architectural Light on Health” identified many issues with health’s relation to diseases that are powered by light. The term Chronobiology was used. It is the influence of light exposure on human and mental health. As recently as 2001, a new receptor cell (ganglion) was discovered in the human eye that senses slowly changing light patterns (Brainard et al., 2001; Thapan et al., 2001). The Receptor cell gives a kick to the hormone known as melatonin which by reading it is a hormone promotes sleep. In regards to SAD and Alzheimer’s patients one must be careful with the distribution of daylight to a patient for treatment. Uneven levels of exposure at any given time can have negative effects on their health. The issue also refers back to the Circadian Rhythm and either natural or artificial light exposure and the body need to adjust and those that do not tend to have more serious side effects in coherence with their health.

wi-10 THE END OF sPRInG 2011

This semester as a second year has been a challenge and we have faced many obstacles along the way. In the beginning of the semester we were ask to list our goals for the spring 2011 term. Some of those goals were achieved and other was not. My first goal was to be able to add a new idea or concept about design to the way I view designing as a whole, It definitely happen as joined into my groups of three, six and most of all in twelve. No one person thinks exactly alike and all approaches were different. I was also able to express my ideas verbally but adding a visual aid always helps boost the knowledge of my teammates because a lot of us are visual learners. In Jenga 5.0 we needed to create a pinnacle for our ending moment at the top of our structure without it looking like an actual triangle or literal point. I proposed that we stack glass boxes on top of one another like we did with the buildings in the structure and the Pinnacle was born. My drawing helped Brian quickly sketch-up it out and gave the other team members a clearer idea. My last goal was not achieved at least not fully. I was not able to incorporate what I was personally interested into the design process but it did come up at times when I was able to design the Theater, convenience store, bar, and cyber lab in jenga 3.0 and 4.0/ bistro Jenga 7.0.

It was hard in the beginning not being able to fully finish for Jenga 1.0. It took me a while to develop all three ideas then build models and have boards. But a lot of the times as we progressed from each jenga to another I don’t believe it was about the physical work I believe it was about how we developed our ideas to come up with a final product. It was about learning about new avenues and aspects of design. it put us in real life situation where we would be working with more than one person on a daily basis and that each person strength contributed to your over all learning experience. I learned how to make proper schedules, render in podium (the beginning stages), render in Photoshop, adding textures in sketch-up, short cuts in programs, and overall just the ability to work in a civil environment with other people.

A lot of writing was required for this semester since it is a writing intensive course. Claire and Patrick were pretty serious about incorporating writing into the semester and with each project. Writing to me always comes as a challenge especially when I have to go back and properly reflect on the design process or even my self. Writing fit in at key moments of each project as an addition to the work we were already completing or as a reflection piece. Writing allowed for us to look at the project from another point of view and gave the work a different visual. Using design language we were still able to navigate someone through the pace with the imagery created with words.

Throughout the semester we had to write narratives, personal reflections, design process, proposal, prospectus (programming), peer reviews and individual book reviews. Being ale to participate in the programming in Jenga 5.0 was a great learning experience about how things work on the written documentation. It was a lot of work and reference back and forth between different document sheets was difficult because you had to make sure that all of the information added up. I struggle with the narratives but the personal reflections were always good just to see how far I had come from the beginning of the year. Writing as an integral park of the design process was really not a great thing for me. Writing to me works out better after I have been able to process everything mentally.

My strengths as a designer have pretty much stayed the same. But now I can add space planning to the list since I have discover that I have a good eye for smaller rooms and laying out plans for those room or floors. My knowledge of completing schedules and finishes have also become a strength because I can tell the difference between the two in order to execute them for further projects. I have also expanded my knowledge with illustrator and using that software has become a strength as well. Overall I believe it has been a very productive semester, my peers and myself have accomplished a lot of things. Job well done in my book.

7.3 First Year Reviews

First Year Student Laura Kimmel Presented her final studio project of the year on April 26^th, 2011. As she began her presentation she was very hard to hear as I was seated midway in the room. Not knowing her personally it is unclear if she is a soft spoken individual or was just slightly nervous as the mumbles roam from her mouth. My advice to her would just be to speak up and more clearly next time. I did however appreciate her perspectives and technical drawing as they were very clear to see from the back of the room, although it would have been nice to see her actual furniture done in pen instead of pencil. Her perspectives had adequate white space and left the mystery up to the viewer. Based on some of the other presentation shown in that 11am hour she had been the only one to attempt a level change within the ceiling and that was very commendable. Her model also helped bring her plans to life. I wish I would have gotten to ask her about her color scheme, since a lot of the rooms were muted in color; browns, grays, tan etc. Overall I believe she did a good job and first year is a learning experience into gaining knowledge about yourself as I designer and how you work with lots of different opinions from you professors and peers.

As we enter Jenga 7.0 the class of IARC 202-01 has been split into two groups of twelve. We have been ordered to create a combination of both designs based on our previous structures as groups of six in Jenga 6.0 and 5.0. My group prior to Jenga 7.0, Pinnacle has now joined with Symbiosis to form SINERGIA which is the Spanish version of SYNERGY inspired by our new site in Vic, Spain. Synergy is the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects. We believe that this team name defines us well and the goals we are trying to reach as a whole group.

The design concept we have chosen for Sinergia evolves from our site choice buried in the trees and mountains in this secluded area of Spain. We want to be able to use the area on this site to recreate the experience of sheltered and open environments. With the continuations of a atrium and a gateway into the new structure that leads you into keeping the idea of a pinnacle moment. By using the resources from the land we would like our structure to mold with its surrounding while still being prominent.

Jenga 5.0 brought together two groups of three in a charette. Circuit + Interlocking unveiled 6 minds Audra Volpi, Brian Peck, Jaaman Simons, Alyssa Hankus, Sharece Ramos, and Jasmine Jones. Each Individual used two of their units to stack and add to design a new structure.

On Monday March 14, 2011 studio got back into full swing with 4.99 precede of Jenga 5.0. The goal of the exercise was to have a small charrette with two other groups in order to combine both sets of complexes to create a single eight story structure. The first group we met with was interlocking ambiguity which consists of Jamaan Simons, Brain Peck, and Audra Volpi. We completely dismantled our structures and put them together in a towering manner. The base is the strong foundation made up of all six of our building and get smaller as it moves upward, followed by three buildings, two then one to make up the totaling eight stories. We had used similar materials in jenga 4.0 and decided to continue with that use of materiality. The central egress point is an elevator centered in the middle of the structure and on the two end of the structure are two stair wells. I believe the idea we had behind this formation is that we could move, circulate and interlock our spaces together keeping a lot of the same aesthetics. The second group we met with beaucop stacked our buildings directly on top of each other with the circuit being on the bottom. Visually we made it work. But the whole central Idea that pushed our design was very weak and underdeveloped. We struggled to come up with a concept statement and make diagrams that related to our new structure as a whole and not as separate entities. In the end I was not able to see the complete ideas of the second group collaboration like I did with the first, hopefully all of our ideas meshed together very well.

Jenga 4.0 was a continuation of Jenga 3.0. with this project we were a man short after Alyssa became ill but me and Sharece pulled through. There was an addition of 2 levels and a rotations of atleast one building and adding two extra stair cases.

Jenga 3.0 was a combination of three members in a group. My group consisted of Sharece Ramos, Alyssa Hankus and Me(Jasmine Jones). We had to come up with a concept word and to guide us in the right direction with the combination of qualities. It was summed up best in the introduction of our prospectus.

When combining our individual concept words, “revolve”,“clockwork” and “epiphany”, in addition to, noticing how we all approached our design ideas in Jenga 2.0, we discovered that by using the solid(s) kit of parts we would be able to extend these design ideas further to reveal our new concept, circuit. Our personal spaces were placed together in a way to emphasize the implied navigation of a circuit. A specific path would have to be traveled in order to reach the designated public areas created by the negative spaces between our buildings. When designing the particular uses for our public spaces we kept with the idea of using solids to convey our concept idea of circuit. The built-ins force the occupants to maneuver around the space on a selected course within the confined area. To highlight the public spaces within our physical model we decided to differentiate the color from the rest of the model by making them white rather than brown to show their importance. As a result, these additions and modifications helped us to achieve our overall proposal.

The Jenga 2.0 project was extended with my third and final space the movement of clockwork. Along with the plan, section, and detailed model I included a second section, diagram and ceiling plan as extra deliverables. The feedback I received as far as positive criticisms in order to develop my work further were very helpful. I did feel as if my kitchen diagram was out of place and incorporating it throughout my plans and sections would have been a great tool for visual communicating my space. Some of the compliments my work received were that I did show materiality in my model, my plan was very clear to read, and that my diagram did make sense. My classmates all did great jobs and different areas and some of the skills I would like to adapt are to continue to develop my model making skills. I am getting better every time I try but I need to be more successful. I also know now that it is great to have a piece that stands out so that I can make my presentation attention-grabbing.

Wi-3 Jenga 1.0 Review Sharon

I was in complete “aw” when I saw Sharon’s models. It was very evident that she took the time and care to assemble the pieces to them carefully. Her choice in material selection within the model helped represent her design style and ideas very well. Her concept word was Levitate. In her three spaces they all represent in one form or fashion the idea of being weightless. The 11X32’4” space was the idea of Lightness embodied through the form of materiality. The fourth wall and ceiling were completely altered in order to reveal the notion again of being weightless and slightly transparent. The square space held a sculptural piece formed from two solids and it contained the bathroom. Compressing and releasing hailing from the theory of magnetic levitation was key in this space. The last space and the largest actually had planes that supported themselves and did not touch the floor. Sharon took the idea of the word Levitate and crafted a display of work that was clearly thought out and put together. Never at any time did I feel lost in her spaces or the concepts building off of them. She even coherently used her kits as more that just objects to bring them to the forefront of her spaces. Well done.

Wi-3 Jenga 1.0 Review Kara

Kara Kooy presented on her concept word crystallization. During her presentation I could not hear her very well just bits and pieces. The lack of being able to hear her dwelled over the whole presentation, Great thing to have the blogs!!!! As I read through her blog and thoroughly examined her pictures, her Ideas began to make more sense. My favorite space (11x32’4”) was the “liquid to solid” with the two columns one wall. I believe it represented her concept exceptionally well. The consistency of the design made me think of the navigation of space as open and loose to enclosed and tight. Unlike any of my other peers her models were done with two walls only. They emphasis solely on the kits and brought the ideations to life. The square space 22’x22’ was all about the centralization of an idea they space formed was very abstract and I believe she tested boundaries; it reminded me of the awkwardness of a Tim Burton Film. The last space, the largest was overall very revealing you walk in towards steps and the living space is all elevated. The craft in her work was very enjoyable and I appreciated the care of assembly.

Jenga 1.0 was all about designing three spaces. It highlighted how design is alway changing and that you can always draw more than one idea for one concept. My concept word was clockwork and the three spaces i designed were:

The Rhythm of Clockwork

In this 11x32 ft space i used the idea of rhythm because clocks normally make a ticking sound and hand have to be in a rhythm to work together. Two columns and one wall was used in the space. The two columns signify the place of sleeping and relaxing located on top of the middle platform. Their is a cieling drop that echos the bottom floor. The wall hides the toilet and bathroom area.

The Precison of Clockwork

In this 22x22 space not only is the space with in itself even the rooms are also equally subdivided. Clocks tend to move at equal intervals and the space also plays of the idiom "like clockwork". The kit in this space was two walls one column. The column can be used as a light to tell time lighting up in twelve section (1 light= 1 hour). The two wall start at 3 and 9 and turn like the hand of a clock to face 12 and 6. behind one wall is the bed room and the other is the bathroom the room without walls hold the kitchen and living area.

The Movement of Clockwork

In this 22X32 Space it was all about the how the gears work within the clock to power the machine. Instead of making literal gears i made square shaped gears out of the kit two solids. I was able to use the solids and create built in the houses most of the spaces needs. In the kitchen the actual table moved from in from of the stove in cabnets to adjust into a table parallel to the windowns. There are also level changes in the space to signify the interworkings of a clock a different points.

With a concept word like CLOCKWORK instantly the idea of a clock and the way if functions come to mind. I was able to take a very literal concept and begin to take apart in detail what it may mean in different tenses, definitions and idioms.

In my first space I used the idea “Rhythm of clockwork”. It is located in the 11’ X 32’4” space, with the one wall and two columns used as the kit. As you enter the space a small kitchen is located with a horizontal straight line orientation, very simply and clean and it mimics the back wall the leads you to the bathroom. Centrally located in the space is a sleeping/ lounge area that is separated from the entrance with a level change. The platform sits higher than the back and front of the space and allocates for the most amount of light. The ceiling over this space drops to imitate to floor below it, and is highlighted with the two columns on either side as a place of importance. Throughout the space there is this constant rhythmic A-B-A pattern occurring. The path from beginning to end allows for perceptual hierarchy of each element of the space.

The second space used the idea “Precision of clockwork”. It reflects the ideal idiom of the phrase “like clockwork” meaning the action that you take it is repetitive, at equal intervals, on schedule, evenly, and uniform. The kit used in this space is two walls and one column and the space is even dimensioned at 22’ x 22’. The two walls are evenly separated in each corner of the space; they are rounded curved walls that each has one window. The first wall is at 9 and 12, and the second wall is at 3 and 6, they play a role as hands on the clock. In The open spaces sits the living room and the kitchen and are connected by the passageway of the bowed walls. The column is placed but the entry door and functions as a clock that lights up in intervals to tell time to those occupying the space.

In the third and final space I applied the idea “movement of clockwork”. The collection of my spaces wouldn’t be complete without incorporating all of the gears, springs and coils to maneuver the clock? This is the largest space at 22’ x 32’4”. The final kit is 2 solids that have the space carved into it. The first solid holds the bathroom, laundry room, media center, and separation wall to the bed room. The second solid holds storage, a movable table, cabinets, kitchen sink, and counters. Without making them literal circular gear shape, they are cube shaped with nooks carved into them. They are able to make connections without actually connecting. The second gear also moves mechanically like the inner workings of a clock. The whole space sits up about 3 feet so that you have to walk up stairs when you enter through the front door. The bed room is in the back of the space with four windows to light the space. You have to walk down stairs into the room and up a second set of stair to the bathroom. This space separates the public from the private a lot more efficiently.

W.I.-1 Designer bio+goals PART 2

Returning back to studio this semester I was very optimistic about the opportunities that would be presented to me. Even being as optimistic as I was I still had lots of questions in my mind about if this is where I belong and if this is the right thing for me, but I know somewhere inside of me that it is. I am always up for learning new things it is how I figure out what I do and do not like. They have a saying “Don’t knock it until you try it” and I always want to try it (unless it’s illegal of course) even if it may turn out to be a complete failure.

When asked to list my goals on the first day of class I felt like I was being but on the spot in a game show and time was ticking down. My mind went blank,” What are my goals? What are my goals?” I constantly kept repeating it in my head. At that exact moment I had no clue, I could not separate if one goal was more insignificant to another but when I heard a peer list one of their goals I realized all of the thoughts that had passed through my mind were all relevant to the matter at hand. Most importantly I want to be able to explain my thoughts and visions verbally, I see it, I can draw it (sometimes) but cannot open my mouth to speak about it so that others understand me, and it’s frustrating. I want to find time to sketch random things, render them in water color & BLOG IT! It is something I would like to do but don’t because I cannot find separation between I. Arch and my life, But I. Arch is my life (at least a big part of it). I spend my spare time doing the other thing I love just as much as design and that’s watching movies, (who does that?). I’ve been told that if you make a living out of something you love to do you will never get bored, and I’m a firm believer in it. So I want to take all of the major things I love to do and mold them into a profession I can benefit from.

When it all trickles down to it, hanging on the other side I also have my strengths. I am able to step outside of myself and see problems with my work, research, listen and reflect, shutting out negativity, and making a schedule and sticking to it (most of the time). I’m always up for taking a risk regardless “at times” of producing an outcome. But I love change, challenging myself, and being open to better ideas. So I guess between my goals, strengths and other aspects of life I enjoy I want to use this semester to find BALANCE!

I came back this semester with an open mind and very optimistic about the opportunities that would be presented to me as time progressed this spring. I have set aside goals for this second semester in this second year that I would like to accomplish. My first goal is to be able to add a new idea or concept about design to the way I view designing as a whole. Learning new things can be a point in the right direction for deciding what I like and do not like about the design world. Secondly, I want to be able to verbally explain the thoughts I have in my head about my own work so that my ideas make sense to those listening to me. It gets frustrating knowing what you want to say and what you’re thinking but not being able to have your ideas come across clearly to others when it makes perfect sense to yourself. Then, I want to find out what my design process and the way I design says about who I am as a person and designer. I am so oblivious and couldn’t answer the question myself even if I wanted to. I wonder every day if I belong and if this is where I fit in? But at the end of the day there is this overwhelming passion for art, design, organization and the final product that overflows my heart with happiness and I don’t know where it comes from but I can list thousand of things that make appreciate design as a whole. My Final goal for this semester is to take my interest in other things like movies (television), music and planning social events and incorporate them into the way I design. It may just be a side hobby but I collect movie stubs, whenever I go to a movie I make sure to keep it (I have over 100), it is something about the story behind that day that holds a sense of importance on that inked piece of paper. But if design is a substantial part of my life as well how do I combine the two so that I get the best of both worlds?

So after all of my goals, I also listed my own personal strengths as a designer and with the help of two peers Justin McNair and Alyssa Hankus I was able to add even more of my strengths (numbers 4-7) to the list. It is hard to talk about yourself and really acknowledge what you’re good at so here is my list:

My Own Personal Strengths as a designer:

1. Being able to step outside of myself to see what can be done better or to evolve the project I am working on.

2. Research! Research! Research! I love researching there are endless possibilities to the things you learn.

3. I am a great listener, I have the ability to remember and reflect on things people tell me as constructive criticism in order to produce great work.

4. Good at producing a final product.

5. Being able to push forward, after stepping back due to being overwhelmed.

6. I am very honest with myself and with my work.

7. Being able to shut out negativity and being able to power through to get the job done.

These strengths coincide with my score on the CHANGE STYLE INDICATOR, which was a 24 on the "originators" side. I was very shock with how high it really was but i guess it made sense with the way I think and the fact the I am always open to better ideas , change and to challenge myself even if I don’t know if I can produce an outcome meaning that I do like to take risk. But this also scares me because i feel as if i am not doing the right thing because i am stepping so far out but I am very unconventional because I do not like to follow suit.

EXPLORATIONS

There is always room for further exploration. There is always more room to discover new possibilities. This has begun since the very beginning of the semester in the study of the foundations unit which has made way for what we have now explored in the age of modernism. There is no way to look forward and continue without reflecting back to what once was. The alternatives that have become apart of the new ways of living would not be possible without what was once there before.

In the unit of explorations designers like Antonio Gaudi took inspiration from the Rocco era to display facades to many of his architectural creations. With the use of the machine, productions of materials were a lot easier. Many of the shapes that were created would have not been possible without the use of the machine. Gaudi had an outlook on his designs, they had to stand out and each of his creations had to be better than the ones before them. They were very apart of nature and looked as if they grew out of the ground.

Not every approach to modernism was the same. Le Corbusier for example believed in a very clean approach to design. Most things were very bare and sterile. A lot of his work was also very geometric and linear. His ideas were sort of very similar to the teachings at the Bauhaus school. Personally I could never want to be in a place so very bare and empty. Le Corbusier looked at a house as a machine for living and nothing more. As times moved forward Chicago and New York were in there own battle of getting the world’s first skyscrapers and being more innovated that the other city.

Along the way modernism also came with its many failures. Structures went up all the time and a lot of them came tumbling down. Other structures were just never clearly thought through and wasted lots of energy by not letting in enough light. Other homes that were made out of all glass heated up way too much and became unlivable. Modernism was constantly a trial and error process. Every designer always wanted to be so different and so inventive. Some things came out great and other things you wonder what that designer had to be thinking in the first place.

Overall design is a process. You find out what works and what doesn’t and that was even evident in the beginning of time with the foundation of Egypt, Greece and Rome. Design is in many ways a mathematical process. You learn to add and subtract what you think is necessary. These alternatives are what makes modernism what it is today, an alternative to the Victorian era and an alternative to such things as medieval gothic styling and lots of other choices. But we always tend to look back and reflect. It is in our human nature to know how we can put a twist on what was once before us or how to incorporate it in our new style. It is up to us to continue to explore. In the end history always repeats itself even if it’s not always in the same form.

My Diagram of the Drawing

Raphael Soyer’s “Girl Putting on Lipstick” 1973 was an etched drawing. Several types of hatching techniques took place in order to create the piece of art. My diagram shows proportion and repetition. The box figure outside of the one that is reflecting the girls’ image is a one to one ratio. Within the space a mirror is being used to capture the essence or beauty of the person. I used rectangular shapes to replicate the girl’s body language. Another Variant of Late Modernism appeared in the development of molded, shaped, modernism, in which the rigid rectilinear geometries of midcentury-became sculpted into singular and unique forms (Roth 572). I used lines in my diagram to create geometric shapes that were parts of a whole. The whole modernism movement was all about creating parts of a whole.

Another drawing that was captured within a space was also of a girl taking on the task of playing the piano. The drawing was done completely in pencil by artist Jerome Meyers of “Virginia at the piano”. The idea of the piano relates to the whimsical allusions (Roth 581) of a person exploring their own personal taste. It also can relate to the first art piece because the girl’s own personal taste was her lipstick that was applied to her face. In relation to buildings in architecture it was applied to the structures front facades. The decoration of the domestic interior was a respectable past time which allowed women to have some control over their environment (Massey 124). I believe both of these women had some kind of control over their lives that left them empowered. I appreciate the natural beauty that was shown in Soyer’s Piece and the artistic talent of the girl in Meyers Piece.

Art Nouveau had a lot of materials and furniture manufactured from machines. “It is a complex, eclectic international movement that comprises various styles in Europe and North America. It had two general trends, one is a stylized organic, curvilinear the other is more rectilinear, geometric and abstract (19^th C. Hardwood 482).” You can fine the first style in locations of the U.S., France, Italy, Spain and Belgium and the second style in Germany, Scotland, Austria and Scandinavia. The curvilinear style in places like France, Spain and America used the machines to bend and shape metals and woods. Sometimes the interior and exterior of the structure were also highly decorated it became its own face on top of a wall or stair case. The Asymmetrical ornamental style seems to have taken influence from Japan or other eastern nations. “It was indebted to the arts and crafts for its flowing, line, simplicity in furniture design and the rejection of academic models. Artist and designers shared an admiration for Japanese art which manifested itself in ubiquitous asymmetry (Massey, 33).”

A designer who took this idea and went above and beyond with his own interpretation was Antonio Gaudi who did a lot of work in Spain. He had a signature look and his work was easily identifiable. It seemed as if his work sprouted from the ground and the awkward shapes were decomposed into its arches and curves. Other more simplistic styles but with the same idea of this style were done in other countries by other designers such as Victor Horta, Alios Dryak, and Raimondo d’Aronco. Each architects style reflected their individuality and they strived to improve the quality of life for other people and society through their design.

2.The implication of “Machines for Living” covers the idea that a house must be functional or has to function in coherence to a person’s abilities. Possibly the goal is to make life easier instead of hindering capabilities. Since the use of the machine is so unavoidable because it aids the progression of life, population and society, we enter back in to this idea of Architecture being an unavoidable art. The famous dictum “less is more” is always a debatable subject. In the case of the Victorian Era when everything was thrown into a room and highly clutter it was just too much. There is always a time to draw the line and back up the idea that less it more. Then there are homes or locations like the Bauhaus school where furnishing/objects were so minimal that it begins to look sterile sort of like hospital, it conveys a notion of cold isolation and not one of opening and warm. To me you have to find that balance “Less is More” if you have too much and to less causes you to add more. That idea is even relevant today in society and our design processes.

Reflections Summary

After reading the points of Alyssa, Nathan and Kara I learned that all of their opinions of the reflections unit varied with some similarities. One thing I felt that tied them all together comes from Kara’s image and quote, it stated “should we move forward or backwards”. Nathan spoke about there being an identity crisis and that people began to start simplifying as time went on. But they weren’t completely original, only their use of building with new materials was the original idea. If they were not drawing Ideas from their past then they were imitating foreign influences it turn out to be an either or situation. As I read on Kara discussed the push in political change and the beginning of two revolutions that caused for a change in economy, society, culture, business industry and technology. It was focused a lot on how they people used what they gain to develop themselves further in all of the above listed aspects. Alyssa did not go into as much detail as Kara or Nathan on particular experiences; she brought in her own personal opinion which I did not see from my other two peers. She related what she learned in class to how she grasp the concepts of what was going on and I really enjoyed reading it even though I believe some things about what happened in the Reflections unit need to be discussed a little bit more in detail. She look at this unit as a Time Warp or a quick view on everything ever done before but with the ability to recreate, modify and regenerate, which I found fascinating. All of them did a great job getting their point across and touching on the idea of wanting to move forward but still taking peeks to look back.

The alternatives unit was a movement. It covers the idea of redefining and breaking rules. It was about wealth because if u had money for the construction, design and ownership of the materials you stood out. Gothic styling was the pumping force of what created difference design and amplified what was once there into something greater with the same name but ultimately said something different. Kara, Alyssa and Nathan all pretty much said the same thing about this unit that a summarized above. It was that small step or alteration that gave someone a totally different view point. It was a time where people mimic almost everything they had seen before with small changes here and there. Nathan photo of the two David one by Michelangelo and the other by Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini speak two very different languages. It was all about the change of voices, who was speaking and that they were heard.

Point: Reflections

It all begins with a thought, the reason we change and evolve throughout the ages. A thought is the foundation of a predetermined consciously contemplated action. These thoughts ignite actions then turn into physical productions. So if enough people believe in the same thoughts, take the same actions, and produce, we then begin to form a revolution. All revolutions begin the same with a drastic and far reaching change in ways of thinking, behaving and visualizing. In this unit of reflections people became curious of what else was out there, what other developments in design were possible, how to escape the constant repetition of classism and constantly thinking of how to make it better.

In the late 18th century and 19th century these thoughts were in full throttle and behind the thoughts were people with voices who took it upon themselves to do what hasn’t been done before. There were changes being made because there was a need to look forward. All cultures began to become involved with one another through trade routes such as the Silk Road which connected the east to west. New materials were being discovered and new ways of producing these materials started to advance. It started a chain reaction in the developmental process of a new architectural style. “Modern architecture is a product of western civilizations;” with inspirations from eastern countries that inspired Japonisme and Chinoserie design in countries like France, Germany and Britain. “It has attempted to create a special environment for human life and to image the thoughts and actions of human beings as they have wished themselves to be.”(Roth 439.) People were scrambling to find their own identity but the industrial revolution left them with thousands of possibilities.

As cities were being affected by the industrial revolution population grew and so the job availability. To support the number of people and accommodate spaces, mass production of materials began and the need for smaller craftsmen was unnecessary. Glass and iron were very popular materials being produced at this time and to show of what it could do Queen Victoria supported the Great Exhibition of industrial products in the first world’s fair in 1851. It leads to the construction of train stations, greenhouses and arcades with significant curves and sturdy foundations. All parts that were constructed for building took only a matter of months and then components were able to be assembled on sight. They were also design for an overflow of consumers and left a modular unity and rhythm.

“Form must always be appropriate to the function for which it is intended” (Henri Labrouste). When the American Revolution and Victorian era took place they were looking back to revive past styles such as Gothic, Greek and Roman but to move outside of the box with the idea. In America the political revolution had a lot to do with their design style and the reason behind the forms that are now in the capitals of Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, North Carolina and most popular to memory in today’s society Washington’s capital. The Victorian era on the other hand revive the Gothic style but rotated its vision into a more modern style with inspiration from India, china and Persia. It was the entire renaissance in another form because the revival and learning of a culture has taken place and the rotation of that idea throughout generations is still pumping its engine full steam ahead.

The Cabinet I chose from the English Restoration period was a revolution where they were trying to make sense out of the previous period of baroque and take inspiration from it. Classism was adopted and foreign influences were sweep away. Men such as Isaac Newton and John Locke were the beginning of an intellectual and information revolution. Revolutions start with ideas and their ideologies made imprints on history. They were an important part of the development of the human race. I believe this artifact represents this type of revolution because it wasn’t over done with to many decorations and artistic embellishments but like the baroque period it had something to make it stand out without being over extravagant. It used what was necessary and still made since. It also provided storage for the owner’s belongings and adequate shelf space.

This Japanese and Chinese inspired artifact was based on eastern porcelains objects. They range in different categories from plates, pitchers, terrines and statuary. The paste use to make the Japanese porcelain structures were a lot harder. When the French became aware of their use of materials they decided to design their own soft paste porcelain, named Chantilly porcelain which was sort of an imitation porcelain based on that of the Japanese. Not only was this material pleasing to the eye when dry, it also has had Japanesque designs such as leaves and flowers which were symbols of botanical motifs. This innovative and inspired design gave the French the possibility of cold beverages and longer lasting storage for their prize liquids such as fine wine.

-Grand Feature Bedchamber-The Chinoiserie
This unique space comes from the Coombe Abbey Hotel. This hotel lies within the heart of England and it is prided for the experience it offers to its guest. This particular room holds the title of Grand Feature Bedchamber-The Chinoiserie, “Chinoiserie” a name give by the French from the inspiration of Chinese influence in their design. The print work wallpaper is a repetition of their very oriental style; unity, harmony and balance govern Chinese art and architecture (Hardwood p.17).Chioiserie wasn’t about accurately mimicking Chinese art it was vaguely Chinese at all. The bed in the room in a way is closed in its own space or parlor. Lots of Chinese room designs were parlor like because the style of their actual roof never truly connected. This is where the whole idea of parlor connected by a pavilion came into play, it was like their own temple of sanctuary separated from others then rejoined with paths. The room also has statuary and wooded furniture. It was just how the French interpreted eastern culture.

The Beautiful piece of architecture known as the Palace Lumineux was apart of the “tour de monde” meaning world tour or tour of the world. The 1900 installation in Paris, France was an inspirational time for the French. It was all about “the French for Chinese” sub root ‘chinois’ from the whole word Chinoiserie. The ornamentation of the roof was highly articulated and reflected water of the pavilion. Architect M. Marcel drew his inspiration from the east to decorate the structure and imitate the gate the many possible gateways. The Pavilion incorporated a lot of nature in a way the were creating their own feng shui recreating a peaceful environment that change the way thought about architecture in relations to themselves.

To recap on everything that happened in France the same thing was happening in Britain as well. The Brits dedicated a whole Garden to the design concepts of there ideal interpretation of China. The china house shown in the picture above is covered in motifs, Chinese art and people. The hut is surrounded by shrubs and plants and again coveys that idea of being one with nature. These ideas of eastern influence in were very clearly seen in Western Europe. This place is also used to host performers, stages weren’t uncommon in Chinese pavilions and gave the garden another functional aspect.

The Alternatives unit was all about modifying architecture to satisfy one’s own perspective of what use to be and how it is currently viewed. Classical concepts were adopted and revised during the Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque time periods. The alterations that were made during these periods defined new meanings of designs and the designers. Every designer wanted to input he’s opinion. They wanted to incorporate every thing they learned back down to their foundations and beyond the norm.

The Gothic time period was a spiritual era with an emphasis on cathedrals. Cathedrals were designed to create a place of worship and unify the people together. Based on location, they were great for central meeting areas or to show that government officials were in power. Construction of these churches had a lot of trial and error. The extension of stone to vertical heights was a big thing; it defined hierarchy and control of a higher power. When some of these designs were unsuccessful and collapsed, it was a reflection of the government and how they failed their people. When design structures were successful they incorporated classical elements and showed illumination of light. These buildings were built to shape illumination with respect to the divine, the divine that lies within the heavens and they used vertically to transform the atmosphere into infinity. It was an alternative outlook on the basilica design of Rome and pushed the envelope. The Salisbury, Amiens, and Cologne cathedral of this period all had different ways of doing but mirrored the same beliefs.

In the Renaissance light also represented the divine but it took “the most high down to common living”. The Renaissance was all about shifting from a religion bases society to a more vernacular traditional style. Designers like Palladio were able to take dome structure in a setting like the pantheon and put it in homes such as the Villa Rotunda. By doing this the definition of the dome and its use change. It was used so that man could enjoy all of the pleasures of design. It was an alternative to the gothic ages; it was a place and time where man became the measure of all things. The renaissance crammed all the rules into one design. They took absolutely everything they knew and applied it to multiple design ideas and concepts. No building was ever completely one style it was a mix of styles from everything that was ever before them and any new ideas they could think of. In our present day period we are still going through our own renaissance. We have applied the separation of public and private spaces in our modern day design, along with the separation of enclosed spaces and defining edges and borders.

The most rebellious period of the alternatives unit was the Baroque time period. It broke all of the rules of classical design and what design was sort of suppose to be. It was the by-product of the Renaissance and layered on extravagant protruding flashy details. This was the time for the wealthy to expose what they had and flaunt it. The rules were ignored in the Baroque time period and designers created their own. They were able to be one with nature by incorporating it into their interiors and also bringing light in with mirrors and adjacent windows. Gold and silver painted filigree and ornamentation was a huge thing. They also didn’t believe in defining corners but that everything seemed to flow together. It was very dramatic and put on a big show to its viewers. It wanted to be seen. In a sense the Baroque styling’s were very theatrical. It was able to be someone different than what people expected it ran with the quote “Theatrum Mundi” meaning the world is a stage.

Each of these periods used inspiration from another to create alternative uses for design. I chose this picture because around the world people are looking for alternatives to other things such as fuel, pollution, electricity, and energy. We as the human race are constantly looking for better alternatives for what once was. It is sort of our duty to revised, redo and enhance opportunities for ourselves whether it is in design or different living accommodations like the ones I listed.

1.In the Neo –Palladian/Georgian, American Georgian, Louis XVI-French Provincial, late English Georgian and American Federal time periods there are a lot of similarities between each of the scales. The artifacts (1st scale) of the desk, chair, clock, state bed and side chair all have organic curves, ornament and noticeable swag details. The artifacts had to have a spaces to go in and theses spaces (2nd scale) were highly decorated, had many windows to let in light, cornices, and had passageways made out of wood; (stairs, doors, windows frames etc.). The buildings (3rd scale) of these five different periods had brick/stone materials in common as well as the idea or interpretation of columns, rectangular plans, orthogonal shapes spaces, and in some rotundas. London, England- Williamsburg, VA- Paris, France-Newtown Edinburg, Scotland and Washington, DC are places (4th scale) that had designs that were influences from previous eastern (European) Architecture and Designers. Each time period seems to have adopted or carried on forms from one another and this is evident in the recurring appearances of design in societies in the east and west. Designers took their perspective of the renaissance period and constantly tried to perfect it. “The New Architecture was to be rationally comprehensible, formed of planes and spaces organized according to clear, numerical proportional systems, its edges and intervals delineated by the crisp elements of the ancient architectural orders. It was to be a celebration of human intellectual power, but it was also an architecture that invited pleasurable human response and once that door to sensory had been opened; there was no holding it shut. (Roth 391-393).” It became an epidemic to design again what was once there and to design more of it, it was a representation of the people, it was the designers personality brought out to a visual display.

2. The East coast of the American colonies were founded and established by the French and English settlers. When they came across the Atlantic they brought over many of their ideas, furniture and basically there whole lifestyle. They were seeking a voice and freedom when they came to the new world. England had seven thriving settlements in the new world (Hardwood 251). With these seven colonies connected to a main water way they were able to set up a trade route with the homeland. “Coupled with this new sense of human potential and history was the perception of the artist as a human scholar...(Roth 353).” The colonist and people from Europe that now vacated eastern America were now able to make a name for themselves. Even though they did take influence from European architecture they were able to make it their own with detailed stylings. The American Georgian period took a lot of the design language from renaissance architecture of Europe. It is very clear that there is a strong ancestry of design language and replicas from the Neo-Palladian and Late Georgian periods of England and the Louis XVI/ French provincial period of France. America became their home away from home. The French left its mark in Louisiana, and a lot of the architecture there represents rectangular floor plan layouts, similar to those in Europe and revised furniture. England, Spain and Germany/Holland have also left an impression in American architecture. It was that repetition of classical style that still stands in what was once many of our major port cites. Repetition was evident across the eastern border, and it created a unity and everlasting connection to the East of what has developed in the west

Palladio was influence by rectangles and music which ratios where possible dimensions for rectangles. i based my design off of his inspiration and previous architecture. The song by G. F. was very spacey with its notes and changing tunes so my rooms are spaced out in that way.

4. Architecture and Design in the Baroque Period did stand for a form of social performance. It is clear to me that the Baroque Period went along with the “Theatrum Mundi” motto very well, meaning “The world is a stage”, and the baroque styling’s emphasized that notion. Design from this time period was very dramatic, full of movement and showed off its grandeur style. It symbolized or _played the part_ of being very wealthy and when you relate this back to theater the actors played these parts that were bigger than themselves. The 17th century was a role in creative exchange (Fathom.lib.uchicago.edu) – there were loads of ideas floating around .People wanted to go in the complete opposite direction of clean geometries, straight lines, and exterior influences. It was all about bringing the nature inside (the interior) and replicating its organic forms and celebrating it with seductive silvers and gold. Their designs told a story and in theatrical plays many stories are told. They brought the idea of fantasy to life and created an urban realism.It gave the people something to talk about and was put into a social spotlight.The Baroque period was a very big theatrical play; it yelled for attention and always kept a captivated audience for as long as it was prominent in the design world.

The foundations unit was hugely influenced by one’s ability to connect with god(s) and emulate their higher power. The main construction of temples was formed by the use of stacking and building up in sections. The overall objective was to be seen by or make the god(s) aware of their presence; this statement is true for both Greece and Egypt. In Egypt, the Egyptians stayed with the idea that height is equal to power and to them the gods they worshiped were powerful. Their buildings reflected these beliefs because they were massive in size, content and symbolization. In present day these very same types of building exist in places like New York’s empire state building and Washington DC’s monument. Each of the structures hold a place on the higher social scale, as architecture repeats itself you understand that the Monument is a sign of a leading government, the empires state building is a symbol of wealth and splendor and they both exemplify power. Tall buildings have captured the imaginations of people throughout time since this antique period. The empire state building even takes similar ideas from Egypt because it has a ziggurat base cohesively incorporated with art deco spire; two important developments in architectural history.

In Greece the temples were made with many columns, columns that mimicked those in the civilizations prior to their own- tall and wide in diameter. The Grecian men used their superiority over women to influence their architecture. It’s still amazing that even though men were in control most of the structures were very feminine in style. One of their most famous god’s was a woman, Athena Parthenos who had her own temple built in her honor (The Parthenon) and city (Athens). Humanity played a big part in all of temples in the Greek empires construction because each of them corresponds to a great Greek god or goddess. The width of some columns in some cases came out to be 12 feet in diameter and heights reaching up to 50- 80 feet. They were also stacked and hand carved, these magnificent columns weren’t only structural or decorative pieces but large scale models of the human body. Columns had feet at the base, a body with flutes, a neck and head as its capitol. Readings from Hershey broke it down into even more detail explaining that the sacrificial victim of the Grecian worship ceremonies once consumed by the fired then took on the form of the god being worshipped at that time. That idea stood out to me because it makes me think of shape shifting and being reborn again. This same idea can coincide with Egypt because they believe in living again in eternal life. Previously in studio it was our job to use our bodies to measure space. From taking on the task myself it was a very hard idea to fully explain in detail and accurately connect in relationships. After the whole process I was able to understand an approximate scale of space based on my own body’s dimensions.

Both Egypt and Greece wanted to experience their connections with their gods through verticality, straight lines the led your eye upward so that anyone entering the space would feel the grandeur of the scale. But once time shifted over to the Roman Empire it was all about the interior, closed off spaces and horizontal expression. This is where the arch was created and perfected, where the dome became a new piece of the puzzle. The designers asked themselves how can we top what once was an answered their own question with the formation of these architectural details. The Roman civilization was very heavily populated and the city had running water from the north that came through a technological advance of the aqueduct. Aqueducts are our modern day plumbing systems, and the Roman even devised a way to dispose of waste water and allow for the fresh water to come in. This Roman Empire was the start of modern day society; they still emphasized the power of god(s) through the domes height and an open oculus in one of the most famous buildings of that period the pantheon. They also began to separate public and private spaces where as before a lot more space was private. The baths and market places were huge stepping stones for public gathering even though previously the agora did exist for that purpose in Greece. Axial progression also remains an important design goal in all three of these locations and the all embody unity, balance and proportion in their work.

The picture below is that of the clouds, mountains and water that represent nature and the heavens, two huge influences in the foundations unit. I chose this because it reflects some of the Egypt Greek and Roman Empires beliefs.

#1. Amiens Cathedral is highly decorated and detailed, I believe the architects with the help of government officials took the time out to give the building a since of hierarchy. The many details aren’t just there for decoration they have a deeper meaning related to their culture and priorities. I noticed a centrality in the front façade alone. One huge rose window sits in the center and smaller concentrations of three circles sit above the three arched entrances that more than likely stand for the holy trinity; (father, son, Holy Spirit) the power of three is evident.
The Amiens Cathedral in France had issues with allowing the structure to hold its ground just like the Florence cathedral. Weight was a huge factor in all of the design choices of the churches. Where and how the stress of the weight would be distributed needed to be thoroughly discussed by the designer and the builder as a concessive whole. To fail meant the failure of the church (dually noted from the web page), the church represented the people and the government. Officials did not want to be looked upon as a disappointment to their people. The sections drawings of both of the structures were broken down into multiples of three components; a.B.a was the form each module took. The buildings overall structure differ in terms of linear and curved. The designer of Florence may have picked up on the failures and collapse of Amiens to try a new make-up of curves and lines. In construction you learn to layer and rethink materiality when in the process of building new arrangements of churches as the builder’s goal.
The Cologne cathedral and Amiens cathedral’s two towers as a whole have an aura that combines unity and balance. Although a single tower does emphasize a focal point and may be a good way to attract the people from all around to come and worship within the church. The location of the one towered Salisbury cathedral is a great representation of that. It is on its own “holy grounds” with the city built around it. That one tower signifies the center and the foundation; in a rural area it can attract town’s folk from near and far. Entering through two towers allows for harmony among the people and entering a single vertical towered entrance can allow for the thought of going one way to the top of the heavens. The location of the Amiens cathedral gets sort of lost it the hustle and bustle of the city life but its presences alone is the hearth and strength of the town. All four of the cathedrals are similar in there over all skeletal make-up the cross layouts seem to be an important factor in their existence.

#2. The domestic medieval interior focused on the control of light and wee as grand are the church. In medieval times the church held all the power. The residences were made up of castles and manors. The rest of the woman’s home could of consisted of a fireplace, tapestries (hand woven most expensive), and window seats. It is a very small enclosed space where a group of people stay; they eat sleep and live in one room. The spaces have a human or homey touch with manmade artifacts of bright-warm colors, dirt floors sometimes covered to spruce up the place.

The Building in Egypt was all built at a grand scale. The heights of some buildings were at least 8 times the height of an average 6’0” person. The pyramids and temples were design with the intent to reach the heavens. The Egyptians believed that when they died all of their material possessions laid with them in their resting place would all be taken with them in the afterlife. These spaces were very sacred, so to preserve history, messages of the pharaoh reign were in carved in to the structures to leave a record of their life. Due to the location (desert land) the Egyptians had to use the materials that were available to them. Using water from the Nile they were able to make mud bricks to build up their buildings. In Egypt there was a clear distinction of what was masculine of feminine and they use these characteristics to define higher power or hierarchy.
2. Greece
In Greece they used a stacking method to contrast the columns on their temples this building method was also used with the Egyptians. Each temple was built with a tree in mind because the gods they worshiped had a special tree that stood as a representation of them. In the Akropolis building plans were laid out with the attention to hierarchy and the perfect way to harmonize each of the building while still letting its visitors know that the Parthenon was the Hearth of the Akropolis. Men look down upon women as the inferior sex and used statues of them in the form of columns to exemplify their enslavement. The ironic part about this is that the god who saved the city from Poseidon was a women and a lot of their building designs have a feminist nature.
3. Rome
Rome took the stylings and designs of Greece to a higher level. The Romans took on the responsibility of arch construction and made their space more unique than those before them. There was a lot of diverse building types in the roman empire and had closed off ‘walled’ spaces unlike the Egyptian and Greece cultures prior to them. The population in the area also was a significant increase to other empires. They had a water system that united them all. They too believed in god and this sacred temple used to worship their holy god was that of the pantheon which is an arch vaulted dome building with coffered ceilings , the dome represents the heavens and the oculus is the top of the dome was like a gateway to their god(s).

1. The Greeks worshiped their gods in the form of trees or nature. The country of Greece is surrounded by water on all three sides of its peninsula, so the land is flourished with green plant life. I believe that the Greeks were grateful for the mass amounts of trees and plants that most likely gave them shelter and food. When a victim was sacrificed the remaining bones were used to decorate sacred trees to probably give thanks to the gods for the flourishing greenery. They respected nature so much so that when they sacrificed a victim the thighs were separated, laid on the altar, then consumed. The readings state that when the victim dies the body is then replaced by the god. When worshipers consumed some of the victims body parts they are doing it to commune or become one with god.

Based on Greek design the first columns and aedicule’s were made out of trees. As the architecture evolved, the trees, still represented as the body of a god was then translated into a more stone structure of a column with detailed reasoning. Lots of leaves, flowers and horns were used in the in capitol or (head) of the column. This is in relation to the priest or leaders of the sacrifice who wore crowns made out of these details. Hershey also made a great point about the base of the columns also known as the foot, which was sturdy and bonded to the ground because a lot of the victim’s feet were bound (tied) together when sacrificed. Many body parts from the sacrifice related directly to the reasons behind the Greek architecture and design. Hershey’s argument made a lot of sense based on what was important to the Greek people and how they decided to respect it.

2. You cannot believe everything you read on the internet. I believe the lesson Macaulay is trying to get through is that people always try to justify a situation without knowing the true background history, therefore giving/distributing false information. When using the web as a major information source you can avoid mis-reading information or evidence by looking up multiple sources at valid websites that have some type of certification, for examples sites with published books, theory papers, multiple sites with the same repetition of information would be a great place to start. Also look a valid site like discoverychannel.com vs. an invalid site open to many people to add their own ideas e.g, Wikipedia.com.

3. Reasons why Queen Hatshepsut used the building form for her temple:

a. Tombs had a gender difference more a feminine title can be referred to Hatshepsut’s building it was interpreted as the “open gate”, with its slender more delicate design vs. the more masculine pyramid temples with pointy “penetrating” tips, bulky size and rough edges.
b. Queen Hatshepsut united the upper and lower kingdoms. So the form may also represent unity and oneness with her people and the land because it was harmonize with the cliffs of the mountain.
c. “The absolute theocratic power of the pharaohs during the fourth dynasty was never equaled, and as a consequence, the Giza pyramids were never surpassed.”

4. The Hypostyle Hall located in the Temple of Amon and The Parthenon located in Akropolis has a lot of similarities and differences. Due to the locations of each of these buildings the materials used to build and the overall textures differ. Hypostyle Hall lies in the deserts of Egypt with barely any trees. The best building material to use was mud-bricks laid out in the sun the dry. When properly executed the Egyptian were able to create a stacking effect. Similarly the Greeks were able to achieve the same stacking effect with their columns. Initially since the county is so fertile trees were use and painted with white-wash to achieve its color. As time went on stone was used for new designs, For the Parthenon stone was used.
Each of the structures had columns H. Hall being one of the first structures to have columns did a great job displaying repetition of the huge columns, all equal in width balanced out the space. The 12 great columns in the entrance of the Hall allowed for emphasis on the axis to the statue at the end of the temple that was made with wood and gilded. The gilded texture was an amplifier for the statue of Athena in the Parthenon as well. Likewise two rows of columns lead you to the statuary in the middle of the temple and columns allowed for the eye to see vertically. Grand height was a symbol for their desire to bridge the gap to the heavens and be one with god(s). The capitals of both the Egyptian and Grecian columns were symbolic of nature, with detailed carvings in the entablature. Other carvings in the bodies of the columns explain the history of each pharaoh’s dynasty and the other bodily sacrifices. Overall each building was strategically organized to form adequate spaces.

5. The lightweight nature of the Egyptian furniture may have had a lot to do with airiness and it relationship to the heavens. In the readings it describes how the pharaohs became obsessed with the gods prior way of living, “the time of creation”. They always wanting to recapture or recreate that moment of the perfect time. I believe the pyramids of Giza were just a signaling device for the gods to see them from the heavens. Within the interior of the structures the furniture cannot be seen.

6. Women were very much servants to the men and the inferior sex. Both of the urn designs have a very feminine nature. Each of the men (priest) in the urns has a staff and they helped distinguish a hierarchy among the people. The ceremony recorded on these urns shows proof of what occurred during Grecian sacrifices to the Gods. The validity of this analysis comes from research of a higher source that got it from a prior source which has been analysis over and over again for hundreds of years. But these sources have high accreditations if used for college and more scholarly reads.

The overall themes for this unit Theories had a lot to do with humanity in regards to architecture and ways of looking at architecture. I enjoyed many of the quotes learn in this unit. “What nature can’t make” is one of the first quotes I wrote down by Louis Kahn. It made me think that no matter how simple or complex a piece of architecture is, it still becomes an art form. Someone took the time out of their schedule to design a space/piece that may be use to inhabit human or non-human objects. It takes the actual ideas of a person with an active imagination to want to be inspired by the nature of their surroundings. Nature can not physically make architectural forms but they sure do give the designers and architects avid inspiration to create master pieces that mimic their original structure. In coherence, I learned that is not only great to practice what you do but be able to explain the intention or theory behind it. Vitruvius believes these skills were important for all designers to embody. The acquired skills do not only go out to guidelines for designers but also to teachers, parents, and coaches who have practiced in their various fields time after time again. When you can give back the knowledge gained in a random category of teaching, they are able to better the community around them.
The categories of architecture and environmental design were put into separate groups that achieve separate goals. The different sub categories geometry, history, music and medicine that aligned with E.D. go back to elementary lessons. We learned all of our shapes, the basic backgrounds of life, to sing songs, and gain the accurate knowledge (medicine) that we needed to run our everyday lives. These sub categories became a foundation for our bodies and minds to adapt around in relation to space. It also depends on where we are from. In readings from the Great Dimensions and Architecture of Happiness the awareness of dialogue in architecture became a key concept. It was the opposite interpretation of two individuals on one object or piece of architecture. It was the key to how humanity involved themselves with the spaces around them. Man’s perception of the world always varies and it depends on whose eyes their looking from. Order, eurhythmy, propriety, economy are the sub categories of architecture. They help man mold architecture into what assesses their current needs of the time along with his environment. There are times when these actions are reverse and nature takes a higher toll on its occupant causing architecture and the environment to become the molder of a man. They intertwine a lot so it’s good to find a happy medium.
Three of the most important definitions of a building set forth its anchor in our Theories Unit. They defined what to look for in a building or design. Commodity, Firmness, and Delight became the “have to” check list of this unit and something to remember for units to come and use in real world. A building must have solid foundations (firmness), functional arrangement (commodity) and pleasing appearances/good taste (delight), to be even consider a building at all at least in my opinion. They leave an everlasting symbol to represent what they would like to be remembered for even if the style is purely vernacular, it has purpose.

1. The Hypostyle hall from 3,000 B.C.E meets Wottens definition of commodity, firmness and delight very well. The Hypostyle Hall’s massive form is made out of sundried brick, which is molded into columns. These columns are about 12 feet wide in diameter which allows for a sturdy base for all 134 columns. Its monumental size is a symbol or suggestion for permanence. The Hall is known for its solid foundation and firm standing. You can even notice the first signs of post and lintel systems. The columns were used to balance out the weight of the roofing beams above them that once existed in antiquity.
The separation between the 12 great columns at an approximate height of 75-78 feet and the smaller ones at approximately 42 feet allowed for commodity to be established. The function of the space not only allowed for a hierarchy to me established in terms of separation of space but it guided an entry way. As the hall is entered between the large columns they lead you through the space in a system linear navigation. It demonstrates function in terms of circulating the structure. Clerestory windows were used to fill the distance between the columns and gave the entry way natural light in an otherwise dark space. It symbolized sacredness, the power of the pharaohs and religious leaders who were the only people allowed inside to its deepest depths.
The Egyptian pharaohs loved to document their lives, to leave information for pharaohs to come. This was done by inscribing walls within the Hypostyle Hall that not only brought delight but also a record of accomplishments. The columns were painted in bright colors from pigments found from nature red, blue and yellow. The capitals were design as papyrus plant that symbolized immortality and eternal life. To them these attribute were and are in good taste. The carvings help unlock not only the key for the architectural future but also a glimpse into the past lifestyle in terms of their own language and dialogue. I believe these three definitions are represented very well in this structure allowing firmness though to lead as the Ace.

2. The central textile depicted is very clearly influenced by Japanese concepts, characteristics and beliefs/ideas. The man background is blue and the Japanese relate a lot of their motifs to nature so it can easily be conveyed as the sky. This sky is also represented with symbolic clouds. The white flowers and lace design resembles clouds in the sky taken over by the wind in multiple swirls. The textile is built up of a series of dots and other geometrical shapes that allow for fluidity. The composition of the piece is very asymmetrical and it is obvious that the western production world adopted its textural harmony.

3. a lot of the time you will hear Americans say “The bigger the better”, for many Americans that statement is true in some cases. For example in IAR22 we sit in auditorium style seating, in chairs that are very narrow and close in proximity to the row of chairs in front of and behind them. Due to rules we are only allowed to sit in our assigned rows, packed in like canned sardines. There is absolutely no personal space. Perceptual personal space is important. It is the difference between knocking into someone’s elbow as you write, leaving an aisle without tripping, or knocking several knees to not feeling awkward, wanting to be perceived as rude when you move and having you elbow stuck in your stomach. Every rotation made in this space tends to be cut in half you end up in your own bubble or aedicule created by the 4 corners of the chair. “Man and his environment participate in molding each other”-Hall. In the situation of the classroom seats they are molding us to fit within them because they are stationary object and non adjustable.

It is based on single person’s perceived experiences. That same piece of architecture can have an opposite reaction from a different view of a person inhabiting the same space. Reflection on Renovation Project

The whole construct process I learned a lot about different floor plan designs. I had to take into consideration what another client would want in a live in studio space and because the space was so small it took a lot of rearranging. It helped me a lot to look at other structures to create different layouts for the space I design. The challenge for the loading dock space was the H-Vac system that could not be removed. It was a structural piece that had to be incorporated. After knowing what basic necessities were needed for the space it turn out not to be so bad. I struggled with colors schemes I wanted to take a separate inspiration from my artist because a lot of the colors he used were so bold and bright. I am still working on my perspectives trying to draw the best I can without tracing Sketch –Up (which I didn’t do except for one perspective), it would be appropriate only if time concerns were an issue because I want to better myself in that area. Also I will be continuing to explore hand rendering techniques to figure out what works best for me, I love water color but have trouble showing shadow and for me it even harder to do in marker.

During the whole presentation process I discover a lot of things I could have done differently and new options to explore. I knew that we had to design for more than one artist so I was really holding back on over designing and when I look back at my space it seemed pretty boring. Even though my designer/artist did mostly billboard work I realize that his allotted studio space wasn’t enough if another guest were to stay there and need more room. My floor plan was missing section cuts which I kept forgetting to put in even after I told myself I needed them, they do help you read the space even better. Stoel challenged me on my projection on stairs on my floor plan and compared to my section elevations they did seemed off and something I am very willing to work on. Next time around I want to pull a greater inspiration and become more creative in my space but I need to work around my time management which caused some issue with me. Sketch-up is not my favorite program but a lot of my classmates depicted them well in their presentation so I would just have to work on my scale and things of that extent. I was very nervous and started off a little fast but afterword’s I did calm down. Even with my note cards I realized I never looked down at them once and it could of help me explain my space better or answer question appropriately when my mind zoned out. Next time I want my board layout out to be more expansive and creative as well. I did not however enjoy the sort time spans in between deadline were very hard to get use to. To conclude I have a lot to work on and cannot wait to become a better designer but I enjoyed the project and all the opportunities it has opened up for me.

So for this clue I had to render my space three different times with the same four colors. I chose to used red, yellow, black and grey because I was inspired by the popcorn bag. As i tried the three combinations there are parts and pieces of the renderings i don't like and do continue to stuggle with light and shadow but i tried. As far as shadows go i believe the first perspective of the three, which is the last one i did was more succesful than the rest.

It's The third clue! I drew a small reading room perspective and used three of my thumbnails from my perspective. The first one is the circles from the bow tie used in the drum lights, the second one is the popcorn print rug and finally the painting on the wall next to the book case. I kept the space simple and added lots of artifical direct light and a pretty decent size window for lighting the space to be able to read books clearly with out straining your eyes.

cLUE NUMERO DOS was constructed with in class. We took the concept back to last semester with our stick and cell phone thumbnails except this time it was with any object of your choosing. I had Nothing Creative with me that day... and i was just gonna wait to get back to my room to do it until Kayla McDonagh gave me a bag of popcorn,..unpopped, fresh in the wrapper lol. I went out to at the basketball courts behind my dorm with some friends last weekend to shoot around. I am i natural born athlete and it filled me with joy just to be active and doing something physically competitive. I felt like a piece of me was rejuvenating itself and i loved it. I've play, t-ball,cheerleaded,basketball, and softball (my favorite). I just can't find the time for them anymore but i refuse to let it be an excuse,it is a better form of exercise and a way for me to relieve stress. As i was sitting out side drawing against a fence the shadows of it cover my sketchbook so i traced a few before it hid back behind the clouds.Being an athlete is being me and an activity i want to continue to implement.

I love the sound of water crashing down against itself. My favorite time to sleep is in the rain. I can remember when it would rain really hard on warm days me and my brother would take off our socks and run across the street and back again. It was such a rush. The sound of the water helps me take my mind of the things that stress me out and puts me in sort of a hypnosis and a peaceful state of mind. Every time i pass the fountain when it is on i take a deep breath, and for that moment every thing is OK. On the Trip to Falling Water i wanted to be so close to the water i fell in, luckily it was warm and i didn't get hurt. But that same sound allows me to feel free on the fountain here mimics that.

Falling Water -Monticello Trip

I enjoyed the trip very much but my favorite part of the trip had to be being near the water at Falling Water. When i learned that Frank Lloyd Wright used alot of the stone from the mountain to be with it instead of around it i was truly inspired. Monticello was cool but nothing like Falling Water. The pictures i drew above are of an ornament on Jefferson'd Grave and the Water up stream for the FLW house that i FEll IN, lol i was trying to get a good picture but feel in that stream, (i slipped on a rock) i wasnt hurt but it made me laugh and hey the water felt great so i drew the spot to remember that exact moment. I took alot of pictures as well i love taking picture so above are just a few.

I tried to capture alot of context this is why alot of them have a series of details. My window display to me came out to bevery succesful in displaying two different light sources. It started out completely different then how it ended. The final project was also done on sketch and we also had a rendered drawing. Early morning is the best time to see the light since the display was located in the east window. it would of been good to know how it changes but over all i that it went ok, even with the numerous amounts of paper cuts lol.

People and Big Objects

So i started using watercolor it was a number three of my first attempts to combine and mix colors. Suzanne told me they looked like little gems. I am still working on how mix colors enough so they look natural and i learned something new the color of tree are really more of a greyish color versus Brown who knew. As i child we i thought to see trees as brown just lik there are symbols for faces and things of that manor. I'm really enjoying this class this year though.

My ritual object was my head scarf that i use every night before i go to bead. The case was made for multiple scarfs and for my first time in the wood shop i dont think it came out so bad. learning new things about the wood shop machines was so great and i have new added skills. It will take more practice though before i am really great at conquering the wood shop. The Brush was makeshift but, during critiques i was told that a real brush should of been used and i totally agree now that it would of been a good way to break the rules.

This was my third attempted at using water colors. I tried to use similar colors throughout so that each picture will contrast each other and build off the same context.I used my classmates SHARECE, JESSICA, and KARA. The proportions on Sharece's arm and bag were hard to do, i immediately used pen on all of the drawings above in stead of using pencil first and tracing over. I was a little skeptical about trying it that way but it came out well.

Through my research i have descovered that i am inspirted my the glow of the light such as in the sunset and the glow of the moon. I want to use shape to articulate this glow of light so that the intensity is not that bright but the contrast the shapes make up against a wall creates a shadow of patterns from the luminare. Based on what shapes i use to articulate light, will determine how my luminare will be formed but my man focus at this point is what shapes create what type of patterns and how this glow may be either diffused withcolor (like the sunset) or white like the moon. These are both powerful light sources with a comforting subtlety to them. The website http://www.flos.it had alot of different shapes of lights that also inspired me in their hotel designs because i aspire to one day do hospitality design. Right now i am playing around with matt board, blasa wood, and fabric paper as possible materials,.. we' see where that takes me.

Dialog Analysis (peer review)

October 28th was peer review day our our Dialog Projects. I analyzed the intergration project by Corry and Ebony's big and small project. I did small sketches of them shown below.

The intergration project interlocked the base with the bristol board cards and sticks to creat two spaces. This was the project that stood out to me that define the two spaces. The spaces themselves were equivalent to one another and their is an even distribution of card to sticks 3:4. Compared to the Big and small Dialog project both of the stuctures seperate and repeat space to create the same pattern. Except the big and small dialog recreated the 2nd space in a smaller model on a plain base. Each of their forms were different but in the end were similar in how the mimiced their spaces and made them equivalent.

So far this is the most difficult project i have had yet! I had no clue what i was going to do, how to define space or what my model was going to look like. At the last min a wake up with a dream of what i want my space to mimic and thought "HOVERING". my parti/collage defined what i was trying to creat i just didnt know how to get there because unlike the unity project we could only fold the bristol board cards once. Definatley i stuggle no ifs ands or buts about it, but i did it !

I drew lots of junk and put them in an imaginary drawer, it was a freedom of expression Assignment. The purpose was to practices hatching a mechanical techniques and freehand hatching. It was pretty straight forward got caught up in and mesmerised by the lines and once i started i finished in the same day though it took a few hours.

Stick and Cellphone Models

AFTER drawing over one hundred and eighty drawings, we were asked to create models for the last set of four drawing we created. One model for each. Black and White paper was used to create a contrast of realisticly bringing the drawing to life in 3-d form. This was actually my favorite part.

Unity Project

Using 12 Skewers and 12 4 by 6 Bristol board pads we had to create a model of unity and join the sticks and paper pieces together, making seperate units to create a whole piece to imply oneness. we also had to do a graphic of 2 elevation and one plan view and we also did a 12" by 12" graphic to infere what our model tried to infer.

We had to draw seperate parts of a stick and cellphone in a 18 by 24 sheet of paper on different panels and until we combinded them both on other sheets of paper to create even more shapes and designs. Overall i drew over 180 pictures of the stick and cellphone combined.

After critique i made a sample of what the fabric and paper could have done to give the paper more than a fuction of just holding the base but it could of been used to hold the straps. i also changed how the end of the fabric and paper met that would give the whole bag a three dimensional look.

My special object was my stuffed monkey, i take him every where, as far a travel goes. He is one of the few things i brought from Maryland that are special to me.

I found a magnolia leaf and a bamboo stick and joined them with a brown shoes string as a binding agent. I used a criss-crossed method to stablize the leave as seen in other forms of architecture. The string and middle vein of the leaf contrasts evenly together to make all three objects one whole product. It's simplistic stucture unified the piece.

My favorite site was Crack Skull Bob. I Liked the humor expressed throughout the whole blog, it made fun of politics and identified the corkiness of everyday people. Eventhough the main concentration on the site was people the work was evoled into a reality of events that occur everday. Contour drawings enabled to work to come to life and pictures enhanced the artist whole approach to the point they were trying to convey. Over all what stood out most to me was the title of each blog that directly depicted what you would be seeing in a comical way and made the images more intriging to view.
